Statement from President Robert Haché on Senator Josée Forest-Niesing

Body:

Dear Community members,

It was with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of Senator Josée Forest-Niesing. A true leader in our community, she will be remembered for her great contributions to the many volunteer boards on which she served (notably, the Art Gallery of Sudbury, the Carrefour francophone de Sudbury, and the University of Sudbury). A champion for French-speaking Canadians, she was a passionate advocate for Laurentian University and held many connections to our community. Her father, Normand Forest, served as Chair of the Laurentian University Board of Governors and her husband, as well as her two children, are all graduates of Laurentian University. Those who had the pleasure of meeting her will remember a very caring and dedicated person who loved her community.

Flags on campus will be lowered at half-mast on the date of her funeral, once those details have been confirmed.

Our thoughts are with her family and the people whose lives she touched.
