Dear Laurentian University community,
The status of Jeno Tihanyi Pool continues to be a matter that is important to both the University community and the public. Since our last update and the approval of our annual budget, we confirmed that the University is not in a position to contribute operational funds to the project. Therefore, the University is exploring multiple funding opportunities to secure the funds to support the extensive repairs and the future financial viability of the pool.
Laurentian has been participating with the City of Greater Sudbury Aquatic Service and Facility Review. This review will look at the needs for aquatic infrastructure that is needed to serve the community in the future. This process will explore how the Jeno Tihanyi Pool contributes to the overall aquatic delivery system.
That said, it is important that we do not create an expectation that the City of Greater Sudbury would help fund this facility. Securing the funds to support the repairs and operations of the pool will require many partners and we have to explore all options. Our priorities are to establish a reopening plan that would see the structural issues addressed, as well as necessary modifications to make the facility compliant with accessibility laws.
We would like to thank the multiple community members who have expressed interest in supporting a reopening. We will continue discussions with potential partners and provide community updates when possible.
Miigwech, thank you, merci
