Province of Ontario supporting students impacted by program closures

Statement from Laurentian University's President and Vice-Chancellor, Robert Haché.

Body:

July 8, 2021 - We are pleased to see the Province of Ontario announcing support for approximately 160 students affected by the closure of certain Laurentian programs. Students are eligible for the funding if no alternative academic option is available and if they are required to relocate to another university. The funding being made available to these students will help cover costs associated with their relocation, any higher tuition fees, and costs incurred by international students renewing student visas, in all cases to allow these affected students to pursue their major in the same program of study. This support, being delivered through the Ministry of Colleges and Universities following discussions with Laurentian University, will be welcomed by students who have been impacted. We are cognizant of the stress faced by these students and are doing all we can to support them through this transition.  Laurentian University will be available to assist this small number of affected students in accessing the program funds and in their transition plans.
