"Academic Success Depends on Research and Publications!" - Philip Zimbardo

Message from the Vice-Dean of Research

Cultivating Research at the Faculty of Management

Following the restructuring of the Faculty of Management at Laurentian University in 2015 and the decision to pursue AACSB and EFMD-EPAS accreditations, the Faculty of Management is progressively building up a research culture through the hiring of scholarly academic faculty and encouraging other Faculty to complete their PhDs and/or become research active. This has led to a transformational change, which has produced tangible outputs. Two research areas have emerged since then. The first one, related to Operations, Analytics and Decision Sciences, has generated multiple publications in top tier journals relevant to the discipline during the recent years. The second, related to Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (SCSR), emerged from various cross-disciplinary scholarly activities and also produced multiple publications in top tier journals. As a result of these research outputs related to SCSR, the Faculty of Management has achieved the status of Advanced Signatory of PRME.

Research groups are emerging through research collaborations within and across disciplinary areas. One of these groups is RGinOADS (Research Group in Operations, Analytics and Decision Sciences), which has been active since 2018. It has organized multiple seminars and workshops. Its members have been involved in several International Conferences as members of Scientific Committees, Tracks or Sessions Chairs, and Guest Speakers. Members of RGinOADS also held visiting positions in various institutions globally (China, UK, Senegal, etc.) More recently, the Dean of the Faculty of Management has identified research leaders in each disciplinary area that he has mandated to spearhead scholarly activities within that disciplinary area, with the expectations that such a dynamic will foster the creation of new productive research groups.

The excellence of the research conducted at the Faculty of Management is illustrated by the quality of the publications of our Faculty and the prestigious awards and prizes that they have earned during the last few years. Further, this year, two of our Faculty have received two prestigious grants from SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council), namely Dr. Na Xiao and Dr. Kamran Eshghi who were granted, respectively, $99,590 and $19,230.

I am confident that the Faculty of Management is on the right track to build progressively and surely a research culture that will ultimately benefit the reputation of the entire Faculty, as well as the University. Together, we will continue to build these foundations, and I am very excited to be a part of that journey.

Dr. Mohamed Dia,                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Vice-Dean Research and Full Professor, Operations Management and Quantitative Methods
