This course explores the nature and aims of the natural sciences and of scientific theories, their historical development and social dimension, and their impact on society. It examines topics such as the nature of scientific explanations; facts, values and laws in science; demarcation of science and pseudo-science; and the distinction between matters of fact and matters of value.
