Labour Relations and Professional Sports

This course examines sports and athletes in relation to the labour market, collective bargaining, and employment relations. It explores the professionalization of sports, labour relations in professional sports,and the relationship between sports and employment legislation. The course also examines how certain groups of workers have been included or excluded from professional sports based on race, class and gender. Current labour law problems in sports, including health,discrimination, and employment standards, are addressed. Cross-listed with SPAD 2206. Students may not retain credit for both SPAD 2206 and LBST 2206.
