Historical Controversy

The course examines controversies among historians, which range from civil disagreements concerning the emphasis and interpretation of documents, to rancorous disputes involving accusations of professional misconduct. Students discuss cases drawn from both North American and European history. The course also covers important historiographical issues such as the nature of history, the limits of historical knowledge, and the character of legitimate historical scholarship. PREREQ: 30 university credits. (sem 3) cr 3 Students cannot retrain credits for both HIST 4835 and HIST 4836
