Patient Care I

This course presents the knowledge and skills of basic patient care that are utilized in a clinical setting. Topics include communication, professionalism, individualized patient care, patient support mechanisms and care of the health care provider. The skills of basic communication and professionalism, lifting and moving, infection control, measurement of vital signs, treating patients with special needs and oxygen therapy are practiced in the laboratory component. The course is delivered by The Michener Institute of Education at UHN at Laurentian University in a blended format. PREREQ: Successful completion of all Year 2 Fall term courses in the Radiation Therapy Program. Successful completion with a minimum of 60% (C) in PHYS1206, PHYS1207, BIOL1506, BIOL2105, PHYS2506, INTE2116 and INTE2126. The course is only available to students enrolled in the joint Michener/Laurentian Radiation Therapy program. (lec 3, lab 3 ) cr 3.
