Paleoecology of Recent Environments

This course considers the study of past environments using ecological proxies such as pollen, diatoms, charcoal, other micro- and macrofossils in sediments and peats, as well as tree-rings and buried soil horizons. Emphasis is placed on the use of these techniques to elucidate current environmental change. Canadian examples will be studied from the late Holocene and Anthropocene. PREREQ: ENSC 1406 or BIOL 1507.
