Usually, moving to a new country involves learning a new language. Whether you are an international student or not, these tips are definitely going to help you. For example, if you speak English and you are trying to learn French:

  • Read French books: with the help of a dictionary or Google Translate.

  • Watch movies or any videos with subtitles: The video should be in French with subtitles in English and not the opposite. If you watch the movie in English with subtitles in French, you will most likely not read the subtitles.

  • Find friends who speak French: The best way to learn is to practice, if your friends speak French, they can easily teach you some new words or sentences.

  • Use what you learn: If you learn new French words, it is very important to incorporate them into your everyday sentences to be able to use them in context, and to get familiar with the language. You can throw one French word you learned in an English sentence and hopefully with time you will be able to build a full sentence in French. “Bonjour, how are you?” “Good morning, comment allez-vous?’’

I hope you find these tips helpful!
