Laboratory Technologist, School of Nursing

Required Position

Position L1103E-09, Laboratory Technologist, School of Nursing   THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS ONE THAT MAY REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WORK WEEK AND/OR HOURS OF WORK.   The current Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours), or Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (winter hours).  Upon four weeks’ notice, the work week and/or hours of work may be changed.  (This may include evening and/or weekend shifts.)

Responsibilities

Reporting to Dean, Faculty of Health, the successful candidate will:

  1. Assist with laboratory teaching by offering evidence-based learning experiences and simulated clinical experiences to students enrolled in French-language programs offered in the School of Nursing,
  2. To fulfill this role, a safe teaching environment (i.e. laboratory) must be maintained,
  3. Assess students’ technical skills,
  4. Integrate technology to laboratory teachings,
  5. In conjunction with the other laboratory technologist, the successful candidate will:
    • support laboratory teaching in collaboration with relevant faculty members,
    • ensure the good order and condition of the facility and equipment,
    • prepare laboratory kits for students,
    • be responsible for coordination and supervision of students during practical laboratory sessions,
    • assess students’ technical skills and transmit results to relevant faculty members,
    • maintain laboratory related computer resources (i.e. SIMS mannequins),
    • develop simulated clinical experiences in collaboration with Faculty members,
    • observe appropriateness of practical teaching in relation to HSN procedures (and politics),
    • take part in School of Nursing meetings, as needed,
  6. Perform other duties directly related to the position, as assigned.

 

Qualifications
  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (minimum); MScN preferred;
  • 3 to five  years of relevant acute care experience;
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is required;
  • Most be able to teach in French;
  • Proficiency with computers.
