History of the Sports Administration Program

Body:

The School of Sports Administration offers a limited enrollment, four-year interdisciplinary professional program that combines extensive exposure to the functional areas of business management with the practical and theoretical exposure to the sports industry.

The Honours Bachelor of Commerce Sports Administration program (HBCom SPAD) will prepare individuals for positions of responsibility in a variety of sports industry organizations such as professional sports, national and provincial sports governing bodies, for-profit and non-profit sports organizations, sports equipment and apparel manufacturing, or athletic and recreation departments. Many graduates will also find success in work outside of the sports industry. The opportunities are endless.

History of the Program

The School of Sports Administration (SPAD) was founded in 1972, when it became apparent that sports industry organizations and businesses required personnel with specific training and education. Laurentian University faculty members from the School of Commerce and Administration and the School of Physical and Health Education developed a unique partnership that has yet to be duplicated. Working with key Canadian sports leaders, faculty members from the two founding Schools designed a program with brand equity that is second to none. Laurentian University’s Honours Bachelor of Commerce Sports Administration graduates are unique, as they are the proud possessors of Canada’s most established undergraduate business degree in Sports Management.
