Women, Religion and Spirituality

This course explores the role and perception of women primarily in the western religious tradition from ancient times to the present. The course examines the influence of religious tradition upon the status of women in various historical periods. The modern meeting of Christianity and feminism is then examinedthrough an indepth discussion of current issues as birth control, abortion, violence against women, and the ordination of women. The course also studies personal narratives which reflect the influence of religion on the current experience of women in society. (T) (lec 3) cr 6. May count as 6 credits in Women's and Gender Studies. Students may not retain credit for both RLST 2245 and RLST 2395.
