Reason, Love and Death in Italian Enlightenment and Romanticism

This course explores how the cultural production of the Italian Enlightenment and Romantic periods pivot on the interplay between reason, love, violence and mortality. Class readings will include Gravina, Muratori, Metastasio, Vico, Foscolo, Leopardi, and Manzoni. PREREQ: ITAL 2005NL or permission of the instructor. Students may not retain credit for Ital 3716NL and Ital 4226 NL (lec 3) cr 3.
