Indigenous Arts of the Americas: Retrospective and Tradition
This course traces the development of Indigenous artistic expression from traditional to contemporary times. The course emphasizes architecture, literature, and the visual and performing arts. These art forms are examined as cultural expressions manifesting in the spiritual beliefs, legends and myths, symbolism and the practical application of daily life. Contemporary expressions are examined as evolving out of traditional forms and as reflections of modern concerns and influences. PREREQ: 18 university credits. (lec 2, exp 1) cr 6. Students may not retain credit for both INDG 2505 and NATI 2505.
