Greening the Built Environment
This course examines structural and non-structural ways to green urban areas. Structural changes such as green roofs and walls, planning for alternative transportation, and forms of urban agriculture are identified, examined and assessed. Non-structural barriers to greening the built environment such as planning regulations, policies and bylaws, as well as the perceptions and attitudes that underlie them, that inhibit implementing green urban strategies are also identified and critiqued.
