Anthropology of the Arts

This course provides a critical examination of anthropological approaches to the study of art. Beginning with a comparison of early anthropological theoretical developments, it will move to recent approaches that emphasize the production, circulation, and consumption of art across time and space and the role of art in Indigenous resistance and community development. The course will explore art through making an art project. Prereq.: Minimum 30 University credits or permission of the instructor. (Lec 1, Sem 1, Exp 1) 3 c.
