Career Opportunity

Body:

Postdoctoral Fellow in the Liquid-Argon Dark Matter Group at SNOLAB/Laurentian University

Required Position

An exciting postdoctoral position is available at SNOLAB (Sudbury, Ontario), with the Particle Astrophysics Group of Laurentian University.

The SNOLAB/Laurentian.University Particle Astrophysics Group has leading roles in the DEAP-3600 dark matter detector, the DarkSide-20k detector at Gran Sasso Laboratories, and the design of Argo, a future multi-hundred tonne detector with SNOLAB as the preferred site.

The successful candidate will join ARGO and the Global Argon Dark Matter Collaboration. The successful candidate will have a PhD in physics; be experienced in design, operation, and analysis of low-background or otherwise challenging experiments; have a strong publication record; and be able to work well in collaboration. The position will require development of simulation and analysis in C++ using ROOT and GEANT4 as well as python 3. The successful candidate will have an opportunity making leading contributions to the design and background budget of a flagship dark-matter detector. Design will include subcomponents, such as a low-background sampling detector for argon. Writing papers and contributing at conferences is expected.

Teamwork and the ability to work in a large, structured software environment are required. Shift work underground at the SNOLAB facility (6800-foot depth) is expected. This is a term postdoctoral position with a one-year contract, renewable based on performance and funding.

Please email a letter of interest, resume with publication record in pdf format and arrange for three (3) letters of reference to be sent to Dr. Chris Jillings, SNOLAB Research Scientist, chris.jillings@snolab.ca.
