THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS ONE THAT MAY REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WORK WEEK AND/OR HOURS OF WORK. , The current Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours), or Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (winter hours).  Upon four weeks’ notice, the work week and/or hours of work may be changed.  (This may include evening and/or weekend shifts.)

Responsibilities

Working as part of the Bharti School of Engineering & Computer Science, the Technologist will:
Set up and/or supervise laboratory experiments for students in undergraduate Civil, Geotechnical and Mining engineering courses;

  • Organize and attend field trips and external site visits for undergraduate engineering students;
  • Provide students with engineering laboratory instruction, including the delivery of pre-lab lecture; instruction includes relevant theoretical and practical information to support the laboratory exercise;
  • Assist in specification, procurement, maintenance and implementation of laboratory equipment;
  • Mark and/or evaluate lab work produced by students;
  • Teach lab report methodology, and then assist students with the preparation of their lab reports and assignments;
  • Staff advisor for LUMR (Laurentian University Mine Rescue) team;
  • Liaise with IT regarding software and prepare computers for Bharti School of Engineering & Computer Science; 
  • Perform other duties directly related to this position as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mining/Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or College Diploma in Mining/Civil/Geotechnical Technology, or a closely-related discipline;
  • On-site experience in underground and open-pit mines, mechanized hard rock mines related to mine operations, mine planning and mine design;
  • Knowledge related to underground and open-pit mine operations, with the ability to organize, attend and support students on mine site visits;
  • Ability to prioritize according to students’ learning needs, and possess a good rapport with students;
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Bilingualism (English & French) preferred.
