Nick Vayenas received his B.Sc. in mining engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in Greece in 1985, the Licentiate in Engineering Degree and his Ph.D. in the field of mining automation from Luleå University of Technology, Luleå, Sweden in 1990. He is presently Full Professor in the School of Engineering at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. He is the head and founder of the Laurentian University Mining Automation Laboratory (LUMAL) His research interests are in the field of mining automation, management of new mining technologies, simulation of mining systems and maintenance of mining equipment.
