Research Interests:

I am an ecologist.  My research focuses on determining the controls on the assembly and organization of upland and wetland plant communities.  Specific topics of interest include functional plant ecology, ecological succession, species pools, seed banks, propagule dispersal and establishment, the effects of stress and disturbance and herbivore-plant interactions.  I am particularly interested in the restoration of degraded ecosystems. My research combines experimental, comparative and historical approaches. I am now focusing on two research themes: 1) a functional classification of the bryophyte and vascular floras of the boreal biome of North America; and 2) the restoration of boreal ecosystems following mining.
